How to use Property Criteria
  1. Open the official portal and select the county in Property Criteria.
  2. Try one identifier at a time: a parcel PIN, permit number, older owner or subdivision.
  3. Select the matching property row and choose View Forms. Read the permit, sketch and any final approval as separate documents.
01

Ashe County

Look up the old parcel ID through Ashe County’s mapping office. Select Ashe in the permit portal and use the old PIN as printed, including the dash. Try the original applicant or subdivision if the PIN misses. Contact Ashe County Tax Administration ↗

02

Watauga County

Select Watauga and keep the dashes in the PIN. For older lots, try the subdivision, lot or owner when permitted. If the current deed is recent, use older deeds to identify the owner at the time of installation.

03

Alleghany County

Select Alleghany and try the permit number or the PIN from your tax bill. If the street address is missing on older records, try the original applicant or subdivision and lot.

Common search problems

Why does my new Ashe County PIN return nothing?

AppHealthCare says Ashe County changed its parcel identifiers in October 2025. Use the old parcel ID from Ashe County GIS while the permit database is being updated.

Can I search older AppHealthCare septic permits by address?

AppHealthCare says that valid 911 addresses are available for operation permits issued since March 2014. Try the original permit holder, subdivision and lot, or the parcel identifier for older records.

What if I find the property but no drawing?

Select the matching property and choose View Forms to check for attachments. If the drawing is missing, contact the Environmental Health office in the county that issued the permit.
